This week at Spirit Night we will discuss the final section of Paul Escamilla's book titled, "The Good Earth." In it Paul quotes Saudi astronaut Sultan Bion Salman al-Saud who said, "The first day or so [that we were in space] we all pointed to our countries. The third or fourth day we were pointing to our continents. By the fifth day we were aware of only one Earth." How connected are we to the world around us? How can we change our daily habits so that we can be good stewards of God's creation?
The United Methodist Book of Resolutions states that the Principles for Christian Stewardship of the Environment includes, "Responsible and equitable use of natural resources, right to live in a community free of toxic and hazardous substances, right to clean air, minimiaztion of chemical use, responsible land use, preservation of the diversity of life, right to abundant and clean water, responsible and ethical use of technology, and minimization of the militariy's impact on the environment." What do you think of this list? What would you add? What would you detract? Are we as a church doing enough or too much?
